Wilderwood - a place for the dreamers

Wind to the Sea

We went to see Kate Rusby in the Summer of 1999. She was fabulous. And she uses this really unusual double-drop-D tuning. Well, once we'd figured out what the tuning was (Tim made me go and eavesdrop outside the mens' loos to find out), we had to try it. And this song is what came out. It's a favourite of mine as it encapsulates some of my favourite things: red brick walled gardens, herbs, the moon, velvet, dreaming, my husband and the sea. Particularly the sea. I've always lived close to the sea (until we moved to our present house, which is fairly close to a tidal river, so that kind of counts), and whilst I'm not passionate about it, it's an ever-present part of my life. Maybe I shouldn't take it for granted so much...

There's a mist over my garden,
Within these red bricked walls,
Sweet breeze will dissipate it -
With the sage,
And the thyme,
And the sweet rosemary.
Sweet rosemary, my love...

CHORUS
If I could ride the wind,
And harness its freedom,
I'd have it carry me,
And blow me away, away to the sea.
The sweet, salty sea, my love.

If we should choose to aim,
At the white hunter moon,
As she lies upon the velvet,
Of our hopes and our dreams
Then we'll land in the stars.
Land in the stars, my love...

CHORUS

Though this world may be so cold,
And the others won't believe in us.
When your warm hand slips in mine,
When we laugh, when we love,
Then we'll land in the stars ,
Land in the stars my love.

CHORUS to end.
